Forward Deployed Software Engineer — Mission-Critical Systems
Andiamo is hiring on behalf of a client building advanced software systems for defense, logistics, and mission operations. This role is designed for engineers who want to work close to the user, solve urgent real-world problems, and ship reliable software into high-stakes operational environments.
About The Role
We are seeking Forward Deployed Software Engineers to join growing teams in Seattle, New York City, and Hawaii. In this role, you will work directly with military logistics users and operational stakeholders to understand their most pressing challenges, then design, build, deploy, and refine software that helps them move faster, make better decisions, and execute mission-critical work with greater confidence.
This is not a traditional desk-bound engineering role. You will operate across full-stack development, systems integration, networking, field deployment, and user-facing problem solving. You will partner closely with Product Engineering, Design, and Mission Success teams while taking ownership of projects from discovery through production deployment.

What You’ll Do
- Work directly with end users, mission stakeholders, and internal teams to identify operational problems and translate them into practical software solutions.
- Own features and systems end to end, from early prototypes through production deployment, field testing, and ongoing iteration.
- Build across the stack, contributing to frontend interfaces, backend services, integrations, networking components, and performance-critical systems.
- Integrate software into existing technical environments and ensure solutions perform reliably in demanding real-world conditions.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, design, operations, and mission teams to prioritize work and drive complex initiatives to completion.
- Instrument systems, monitor performance, investigate issues, and improve reliability through thoughtful debugging and iteration.
- Make pragmatic tradeoffs between speed, scalability, maintainability, and mission urgency.
- Travel approximately 25% to support deployments, field testing, customer engagements, and hands-on user feedback sessions.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals with the ability to build reliable production systems.
- Experience working across multiple technical areas, including full-stack development, systems integration, networking, or infrastructure.
- Ability to operate independently in ambiguous, fast-moving environments with minimal supervision.
- Strong ownership mindset and comfort being accountable for high-impact technical outcomes.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical users.
- Practical engineering judgment, especially when balancing urgent operational needs with long-term system quality.
